Extraction of bioactive compounds from Curcuma longa L. using deep eutectic solvents: In vitro and in vivo biological activities

In this work, deep eutectic solvents (DES-based menthol and cholinium chloride) the ethanol, temperature, times were selected to extract bioactive compounds from rhizome, leaves, flowers Curcuma longa L., using ultrasound-assisted extraction. Analyzes antioxidant, flavonoids, antimicrobial, chelation Fe2+, inhibition of cholinesterase's enzymes, cytotoxicity, genotoxicity in Allium cepa cells performed. The extracts showed results iron antibacterial. leaves' inhibited food spoilage bacteria with values above 45%, substantial iron-chelating activity 50%. Extracts obtained by DES based on lactic acid exhibited a high percentage acetyl butyryl cholinesterase. contrast, flower acetic low cholinesterase enzyme activity. No cytotoxicity genotoxicity. Biological activities potential for application these pharmaceutical industries.

Deep eutectic solvents (DES) as a new kind of green solvent were used for the first time to excellently extract phenolic compounds from model oil. It was also proved that DES could be used to extract other polar compounds from non-polar or weakly-polar solvents by liquid-phase microextraction.
